Spannabis 2023:
Best cannabis festival yet?
Spannabis is one of the globe’s best cannabis festivals. For us at ROOR the 2023 edition in Barcelona was a great chance to spread the word about our world-first rolling papers with CBD-infused gum and have plenty of fun along the way.
In this recap of the Cornellà, Barcelona cannabis event (10-12th March, 2023) we’ll talk about some of the music, food, booths, and speakers we enjoyed.
Cannabis freedom. Now there’s no turning back
These days the cannabis community can’t wait to break free. Gatherings like Spannabis prove how great life would be if we lived in a world without judgement.
What makes Spannabis [1] special? The atmosphere is fun, free, and diverse. Vendors, consumers, growers, academics, musicians, artists, and writers all come together to share knowledge and see the future of cannabis rights.
Yes, we elevate where we want. Yes, we can skank until our heads start to spin. And yes we can hang out in a city as cool as Barcelona. Shades. All Night Long. 😎

When we rave about Spannabis what are we raving about?
The jamming
Pot and music go back a long way. Reggae, Jazz, and psychedelic rock are just a few of the genres that owe a debt of gratitude to our favourite 2,500-year-old plant.
It’s fitting then that the Spannabis music stage had pride of place in the centre of the festival.
Jhana Beat was one of the musical highlights. She made us all (think and) dance like lunatics on Friday afternoon. Her set combined a social message with rumba, reggae, and pop.
Karlixx really killed it on Sunday afternoon too. His innovative DJ set fused fast tempo and broken beats—sending our heads off to the stars.
A big shout must also go out to Dub Engine. We don’t know how you got the sound system so loud. You knocked us dead! ☠️
The dealing
Spannabis isn’t just about having fun. For those in the cannabis business, it’s also about building up our pot networks and spreading the word about new products.
At this year’s gathering there were booths for just about every aspect of the weed business from narco-themed lighters to special nutrient-rich soil to grow the very best green crops.
Whether you’re a veteran of the cannabis industry or have just launched a startup, Spannabis is one of the best cannabis festivals to start building hype for new products and services.
The edible feast
Anyone looking for a food fix at Spannabis was in for a treat. The smells around the festival site infused cannabis terpenes and Spanish chorizo.
There was a great variety of food with woks, hot dogs, and vegetarian snacks on offer.
The weed talk
At Spannabis we also get high on knowledge.
This year the festival partnered with the World Cannabis Conference. The event brings together experts and cannabis enthusiasts. It’s a great place for learning new things and meeting like-minded people.
The talks were located in the auditorium adjacent to the Spannabis event. The site offered a great place to sit back, relax, and expand our consciousness.
What were our stand-out moments from the conference?
There was a talk celebrating the launch of a book about cannabis and tattoos: ‘Stay Stoned: Locura, Cannabis & Tattoos’. The speeches from the authors were super inspiring for anyone who loves body art.
Gilberto Cannarozzi and Samuele Salvadori ‘Sem Boy’ spoke about the history of the discipline—filling the big screen in the theatre with examples of classic and underground cannabis-themed tats.
Other high-grade talks included “Cannabis legalisation in the world: justice or big business?” and “Can CBD really reduce the effects of THC?”
ROORin’ ahead
Here at ROOR we have a total obsession with Spannabis. In fact, we take it so seriously that we have a calendar in the office counting down the days until they open the festival doors. 🤷♂️
Our 2023 Spannabis booth has a 6-metre screen that was so bright it blocked out the sun. On it we displayed gravity-defying ROOR graphics and stoner images.
To spread the word about our sustainably-made products, we were offering free prizes everyday with ‘ROOR the dice’. This game used three dice. Roll a lucky combination and you won prizes and gained free entry to ‘Bong O’Clock’—a highly-rewarding raffle that took place on each of the three days of the festival.
We ran the competition in partnership with the ROOR Germany [2] team, and winners of the raffle got a bong at 4:20 pm. The lucky entrants came from both Spain and Italy.
Throughout the Spannabis event our team was on hand to answer questions about our award-winning, world-first rolling papers with CBD-infused gum. And there were plenty!
A celebration of freedom
Spannabis is known as one of the best cannabis festivals in the world for a reason. All in all, the 2023 edition was a total blast. The sun was shining the whole time. We got the chance to chat with new friends, discover new pot products, and expand our cannabis vocabulary.
They said it lasted three days, but to be honest we were having so much fun it all seemed to roll into one.
Our big takeaway was the sense of liberty the Cannabis event in Barcelona gave everyone. If this is the future of cannabis freedom, then we want to experience more of it soon.
