3 Easy cannabis recipes to try at home

We’ve decided to dedicate this post to the subject of cooking with cannabis and CBD. As you no doubt know, cannabis edibles are very popular these days. So we thought it would be fun to post a few simple recipes, including some guidelines to cooking with weed and CBD, so that you can learn to make your own THC or CBD-infused gummies, cookies or savoury snacks, and bring some extra magic to those nibbly moments of the day.

Cannabis cooking: 4 basic tips you need to know

1.Sativa or indica

Firstly, choose your strain with care, and decide if you are after a more sativa or indica effect.

2. How do Terpenes affect flavour

There are more than 100 different types of terpenes in cannabis plants, and they dictate the smell and flavour profile, as well as the nuances of effect. For sophisticated cooks out there, the terpene profile can be paired carefully with the particular dish.

3. Decarboxylation

Decarboxylation is sometimes overlooked but is vital to ensure the effects! Pre-heat your oven to 130°C, line a baking dish, cut your flower into pea-sized pieces, and bake for twenty minutes.

4. Preparing your Oil or Butter

This is the time-consuming bit, so plan ahead! Once you’ve decarboxylated, you need to make your cannabutter/canna-oil, which is central to cooking with cannabis.

Ingredients you need:

-250ml of water

-2 bars of butter/250ml of oil/coconut oil

-3g of weed (ground to a coarse grain,

but not so that it becomes a fine powder)

The instructions:

Put the water and fat in a pan on the stove at low temperature for a few minutes, and then add the weed. Simmer for up to 3 hours so that the THC infuses the fat. Then strain out the plant matter with a sieve.

Now there are 3 easy cannabis recipes for you to try at home.

1. Canna-Cookies

You’ll need these ingredients:

-1g baking soda

-A pinch of salt

-120 g cannabutter

-230g of chocolate chips

-200g flour

-80g of sugar

-10ml of vanilla extract

-140g of brown sugar

-An egg

The instructions:

1.Mix the baking soda, flour and salt

2.Separately mix together the sugar and cannabutter

3.Mix in the egg and vanilla and blend them together

4.Add the chocolate chips, then the flour, baking soda and salt mixture that you have set aside, and make a dough by stirring.

5.Cut into 60 biscuits, each one of 5 mg, or 30 of 10mg if you want really strong ones!

6.Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 20 minutes, until they’re nicely browned!

2. Weez-its (cannabis version)

Now for something a bit different! Cheez-Its, in case you don’t know, are delicious, rectangular baked cheese crackers (known as Weez-Its when they’re in their cannabis version!).

You’ll need these ingredients:

-4 cups of Cheex-Its

(or similar Cheese crackers)

-Cannabis oil

The instructions:

This is a super-simple recipe, which involves simply heating the oven to 120°C, pouring four cups of Cheez-Its or similar cheese crackers into a large bowl and pouring cannabis oil over them, then tossing them to make sure it coats them all. Bake them for 25 minutes until the oil is absorbed and they’re lightly toasted, and hey presto, eat once they’re cool!

3. Cannabis Gummies, a modern classic!

You’ll need these ingredients:

*Gummy moulds*

-120ml canna oil

-120ml cold water

-85g of flavoured gelatine

-18.5g of unflavoured gelatine

-2.25g flaxseed, sunflower or soy lethicin

(necessary for emulsification but you can blend the

ingredients at a high RPM if you can’t get hold of this)

And here’s how to make these magic little treats:

1.Put the water, canna coconut oil, and lecithin in a pan on the stove on low heat.

2.Stir until the oil is completely melted and the mixture has a consistent texture. Add in both types of gelatine, stirring constantly.

3.Keep on a low heat for 10-15 minutes until the gelatine is dissolved, making sure to constantly whisk the mixture and also that it doesn’t come to a boil.

4.Strain the mixture with a sieve to catch any lumps of undissolved gelatine and impurities.

5.Use a dropper to fill the gummy moulds one by one, fairly quickly so that the liquid doesn’t cool and begin to separate. Make sure to stir the rest of the mixture frequently while you do this, so it doesn’t harden.

6.Once the moulds are full, put the gummies in the freezer for 20-25 minutes.

Do try this at home!

We hope we’ve tickled your palate today. Why not try out one (or all three) of these?  They’re perfect for when you don’t feel like smoking, or are in a place where it’s not convenient, but feel like a long, full-body high.

Just a reminder: patience is key with edibles. Give yourself plenty of time (between one and two hours) for the effects to take hold, without grabbing for more, because they will come!
